Thit faux ad is part of Thomas’s seminal series called “Branded,” which raises questions about how advertisers seduce us with images, and manipulate our values and behavior. After the “Branded” series, Thomas deconstructed advertising images in other ways, with particular attention to race, and the way African-Americans are subjugated and manipulated. Race was his point of departure for a more universal critique about the language of advertising.
